Abstract

The case is a study of activities of “UDYOGINI” a social enterprise founded in 1992 in New Delhi, India. The objective of the organization is to empower poor, asset-less and mainly illiterate rural and tribal women by providing them necessary training of micro enterprise development and management so that they can earn their sustainable livelihood independently. It works with poor, mainly illiterate, women to improve their skills as producers and their knowledge of the markets they operate in, so as to ensure long-term sustainable livelihood for them and their families. Udyogini has so far developed 16,932 micro entrepreneurs through its 390 business development service providers spread in 6 states and 13 districts within these states. Therefore, through this case, the researcher will discuss the systems, processes, practices and methods that Udyogini use to create micro entrepreneurs and the results it has achieved so far in its mission of transforming poor tribal and rural women into successful micro entrepreneurs.
